The Role


Planning Policy Manager
£58,144 – £63,114

This is a varied and extensive role, working across both South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils. Alongside the main emphasis on Planning Policy, this person will oversee the production of the councils’ Local Plan and Supplementary Planning Documents, working closely with elected councillors and the community through all stages of plan making. The role also oversees the council’s highly proactive approach to neighbourhood planning, and planning infrastructure including the review of the Community Infrastructure Levy.

For the right person, this is an ideal platform on which to develop your professional leadership credentials. You’ll join the Planning management team, which leads a department of approximately 150 people, and work closely with the Head of Planning to ensure a high performing Planning function that is closely aligned to the councils’ strategic priorities in terms of economic growth and place shaping. You will also have the opportunity to join the councils’ wider organisational management team, presenting an opportunity to play a role in broader corporate initiatives.

It’s essential that you bring recent experience of Planning Policy and working through different stages of the Local Plan process. You’ll appreciate the importance of establishing professional credibility and trust with elected councillors, that is founded on sound, evidence based advice, and a solutions focused approach. You’ll also recognise the value of effective community engagement in shaping decisions around Planning Policy, and be able to demonstrate how you have undertaken this in your career to date.
